During the previous presidential election cycle I witnessed a breath-taking abuse of such a vehicle at St. Louis parish in the Alexandria area. This was right at the point where I was in the process of leaving that parish to join Good Shepherd, and my daughter was still singing with their "youth schola" (which was symbolic of their reactionary liturgical views, but provided my daughter with some truly impressive musical training). I was there to drop her off early to sing at mass, and the earlier mass had not yet ended. As I pulled into the parking lot, I notice what appeared to be a brand-new Volkswagon Beetle with an Obama bumper sticker. What caught my eye, though, was that it was almost completely covered with sheets of paper. I parked my car, and walked over to investigate...the sheets were photocopies of some editorial about Obama's position on abortion, or something of that sort. They were shoved into the gaps around the doors, hood, and trunk; jammed under the wipers, and (somehow) stuck to the glass and paint. When I picked one up, it was damp and smelled strongly of perfume, which is apparently how they were made to stick.

This abuse of someone's personal property really angered me, and I carefully removed all the sheets and threw them into the trash. If I had any lingering doubts regarding my decision to change parishes, this incident laid them to rest. I simply cannot imagine something like this occuring at Good Shepherd, thankfully.

Thank you for this series of entries on the character and history of the Arlington Diocese. They have been enlightening. Keep up the good work.

Andy JohnsResQgeekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12856022376892757786noreply@blogger.com
